Free basic machine knitting patterns online for women's knit cardigan

Machine knitting yarns come in a huge variety of thicknesses, from bulky all the way down to yarns as fine as sewing thread.
Coned machine yarns are usually treated with an oil or waxy substance for a knitting machine.
Because of this, the gauge and appearance of your knitted fabric will vary before and after washing.
If you are knitting by machine or hand, you must wash your swatch before measuring your gauge because it shrinks or stretches.
Machine: Any knitting machine and ribber
Ribber = knitting machine combined with the ribbing attachment
( if you don't have a ribber, knit rib by hand, then transfer your knitting knit to the machine )

Set up for 1 x 1 rib. (Instructions are for Brother )
Rack the ribber 1 space to right to get needles in Zig-Zag position. Brother; (P3). Important ; the right-and-left most
outer stitch is on the Main bed .

Knit 2 or 3 circular rows. Cancel part buttons on Both carriages, set dials to ribber tension. Rib for required amount.

Return pattern to row number required, same number for electronics, For Brother -
1. ; press Part-buttons, than; press Memory button.
2. ; knit 1 row from right to left; Needles are now selected.
Continue knitting in pattern (DON'T forget to press MC-button if you where knitting Fair Isle.) OR Press 1 row higher for punchcard machines.
For more rib patterns go to my machine knitting page.

First, pick your yarn and do a swatch, determine the right gauge, gauge is a matter of personal choice.
The needle's position on the bed, together with the carriage settings, determines whether the stitch will knit, slip, tuck, or hold.

COL = carriage on left
COR = carriage on right
HP = holding position. This is usually pos D or E, depending on brand of machine
LH = left hand
MY = main yarn
RC000 = turn the row counter to 0 (zero)
TD = tension dial
WY = waste yarn.
Options; Knit several rows with waste yarn, then start knitting with Main yarn, or remove with WY the knitting from the machine.

begins. The rest should be evenly spaced between these two, approximately 9,1 cms apart.

BUTTONHOLE BAND:
1. knit buttonhole band as for button band, knitting buttonholes at the marked positions. Check your machine
knitting reference book for techniques.
2. Sew buttons at marked positions on the button band, being careful to align buttons with buttonholes.

FINISHING: Take special care to finishing. Mattress stitch is better for patterns ( fair isle ) or stripes.
Sewing up neat seams, takes more time than the knitting, but you want a professional look, not home made.

1. Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Use a small back stitch, give final pressing.
2. Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.

AMOUNT OF YARN REQUIRED TO MAKE GARMENT:
--- WARNING. THIS IS A ROUGH ESTIMATE ONLY. Measure a sample piece for a more accurate calculation.
Amount needed:
526,4 for body and sleeves
79,4 for ribbing and/or hems
33,1 for collar/hood (includes cardigan front bands)
638,9 Grams TOTAL
